Katie Frazer writes: In Catmere End yesterday I noticed the most lovely thing. A little boy called Alfie was celebrating his 9th birthday. In lieu of his party, he was doing a ‘walk through’ of the village with his mum and dad – almost every house had either a balloon outside or a sign/picture that said: Happy Birthday Alfie! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a little chap look quite so proud and happy.
To that end, I wondered if we could do this for our Littlebury lock-down birthday girls and boys? I’m thinking about it particularly because Delphine is 7 on Monday and is sad to be missing out on the ‘whole class’ birthday party I’d promised her (admittedly, I’m not that sad…!!).
If you have the time/energy/wherewithal to hang a balloon outside your home, or a little ‘happy birthday’ sign, that would be a truly lovely gesture. We’ll have a potter around the village after lunch to give everyone a wave.
Those of you with primary-aged children (or older, if they’re up for it!), who will be celebrating a lock-down birthday, please let us all know in the same way, a day or two beforehand. I think it could be a fantastic way of making this strange and worrying time happy and memorable for little/not so little people!
