Do you want to make a difference and create safe roads within your community?
Littlebury Parish Council is inviting residents to get involved in making roads safer by seeking volunteers to establish a Community Speed Watch (CSW) Group.

CSW Groups are formed of volunteers, with training and support provided by the Safer Essex Road Partnership (SERP). CSW Groups require at least 10 volunteers and one appointed co-ordinator, with monitoring taking place in groups of 3 at two or three designated 30 or 40mph areas.

The Essex Community Speed Watch Scheme is celebrating significant progress and success in the past year, as it works towards its mission of reducing road deaths and injuries. It is a volunteer-led initiative aimed at reducing speeding and improving road safety across Essex. By working alongside Essex Police and other key partners, the scheme helps monitor speeding in local areas and raise awareness about the dangers of speeding on our roads.
Essex Community Speed Watch continues to work closely with the Safer Essex Road Partnership (SERP) towards achieving Vision Zero – the goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on the county’s roads by 2040. While this goal is ambitious, the dedication and enthusiasm of volunteers across the county are making a tangible difference in creating safer communities.
Each of the over 100 Community Speed Watch Group Co-ordinators play a pivotal role in managing monitoring sessions, submitting speeding data to the Processing Team, and recruiting new members. Volunteers are welcome to contribute as much or as little time as they are able, with some groups monitoring roads on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis, depending on the group size and availability of volunteers.
In addition to making an impact on road safety, the scheme offers a great social opportunity for volunteers and provides a way to give back to local communities. It also continues to receive recognition and support from Essex Police and Essex Highways, who endorse the vital role the volunteers play in improving road safety.
