Highways plan to carry out emergency resurfacing work on the M11 between junction 8 and 9a. The road surface has become worn and damaged in several areas, with cracks, grooves, and loose material appearing across the lanes. This work will include resurfacing, refresh road markings, and replacing worn-out studs.
Since this part of the carriageway is very busy, it is important to fix these issues as soon as possible to reduce the risk of incidents or damage to vehicles. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface.
Highways plan to complete this work over approximately four weeks starting on Tuesday 10 February 2026. Working between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Saturday, weather permitting. There will be no construction work on Sundays.
Closures and diversions
To carry out the work safely, they will need to close the M11 in both directions from junction 8 and 9a with diverted traffic as detailed in the below table:
