Late last year several homes in Catmere End were broken in to and property stolen. Earlier this year multiple outbuildings and garages in Littlebury Green were broken in to on each of two nights, with quantities of mowers, garden equipment, bicycles etc stolen. These were planned, well organised burglaries. A drone was used a month or so earlier to identify back routes to gardens in Littlebury Green. Sections of fencing and entire gates were cut away to gain access. Although officers attended some residents were dissatisfied with the subsequent response by Essex Police, especially as two traced their property being advertised for sale on the internet but neither received any support to recover their property. One of our District Councillors. Neil Gregory, is taking this up with the Deputy Chief Constable.
In March the Parish Council invited Mr Hirst, Essex Police Fire and Crime Commissioner, who has overall responsibility for policing policy, to meet them but received no response. Mr Hirst was due to attend the UDC Scrutiny Committee meeting on 3 June, and the PC had a slot to ask questions. Unfortunately he cancelled. He was due to attend an open meeting at SW town hall on Monday 21st July 2025 7.00-8.00pm, along with senior police officers but again has cancelled. The PC have also complained to Chief Inspector Martin Richards, responsible for Uttlesford, about the lack of support for residents.
