The Bell Ringers

The church has six bells, which are rung on a regular basis. There is a team of bell ringers that also ring at other village churches. New bell ringers are always welcome – practice night is Thursday at 8pm. Bells are rung at Sunday services and weddings on request.  Contact Isabelle Page t. 529089

Bell Ringing Service Sunday 18th September 2016

Jean Cowell describes the service: 'It was very informal and so interesting, a lot of thought had been given to the choice of hymns , psalm and prayers all of which had ‘bell’ contents; we even sang Ding Dong Merrily on High; albeit a few months early!  The bell ringers took such an active part and read poems with accompanying visuals.

Littlebury's bell ringers carry the prize 2016

On Saturday 15th October Littlebury's wonderful bell ringers won this year's local striking competition award. It is the first time in 30 years that Littlebury has entered. Well done bell ringers!  The event was held at Holy Trinity Church, Littlebury so they obviously had a home advantage!  Pictured here on the right are l-r Janice Lambeth, Vince Taylor, Roly Webb, Isabelle Page, Sue Butler and Martyn Porter.

Littlebury Bell Tower Update

The sound of the bells when you are ringing in the bell chamber is currently so loud that changes that are called (moving bells into a different ringing sequence) cannot be heard. For this reason we have been fundraising recently to install a false ceiling using acoustic-grade sheep’s wool insulation to deaden some of the noise. You won’t notice any difference from the outside but we will be able to at least hear each other’s ringing instructions and hopefully work on some more complicated ringing.

As a group, we would like to thank the community for being so generous and supportive in our fundraising endeavours at the quiz night and safari supper.

Littlebury currently has a small band of 6 regular ringers but we are always looking for more.  We are keen to see if any young people in the village (aged 12 and over) would like to try.  So, on Saturday 11th July we will be holding an open afternoon principally for our younger potential ringers.  Come along anytime 3-4pm and give it a go.  Any questions please contact Isabelle Page, Tower Captain, on 529089.

Bell Ringers Corner - Celebrating Shirley 2017

To celebrate the 80th birthday of Shirley Green, one of our longest serving and loyal bell ringers, the Littlebury band rang a quarter peal of Plain Bob Doubles on 24th July.  A quarter peal is a long length of ringing - around 45 minutes - and must be at least 1250 changes (all done from memory by each ringer).
Well done to all the team!
